The Cancer Drug Development Forum – CDDF is the platform for all stakeholders involved in the development of cancer drugs.

🔔 📢 The Cancer Drug Development Forum (CDDF) held a live webinar on ““Using AI in assessing cancer treatment response on imaging: Project Data Sphere” on 23 April at 17:00 CEST. This webinar featured a key lecture given by Dr Sean Khozin (Project Data Sphere) followed by a second presentation by Dr. Christopher J. Medberry (Johnson & Johnson). A panel discussion moderated by Birgit Wolf (CDDF) and Prof. Jaap Verweij (CDDF) followed thereafter. Here are the key takeaways from the webinar:

    • AI has great potential to have transformative impact on cancer care, cancer drug development and improve patient outcomes
    • a prominent and emerging field is use of AI for medical imaging and related tumor measurement methodologies that move from “2D judgement” to volumetric analysis of tumor growth dynamics
    • the autoRECIST project (done by Project Data Sphere, a nonprofit initiative of the CEO Roundtable on Cancer) is exploring use of AI algorithms such as machine learning and deep learning to analyze tumor medical images that can significantly improve the accuracy and efficiency of tumor response measurement in clinical trials and cancer care,
    • Clinical validation and Regulatory acceptability of such novel AI-based methodologies is key, especially when used in drug development and clinical trials; Global Regulators provide a regulatory framework on considerations on the use of AI in medicine life cycle, still this is an emerging field
    • Both speakers emphasized the role and benefit of pre-competitive multi-stakeholder collaboration that allow to work on shared outcomes including sharing of robust and large datasets that are specially needed to work towards acceptance of innovative tools or methodologies for enhanced cancer drug development and patient care.
