The Cancer Drug Development Forum – CDDF is the platform for all stakeholders involved in the development of cancer drugs.

The CDDF is pleased to share the key takeaways from our live webinar series – “AI and Big Data AI in Drug Development: Use of AI in clinical trials” held on 12 May 2026. This webinar included a lecture by Dr. James Gulley (NIH) followed by a 30-minute Q&A discussion moderated by Jaap Verweij (CDDF) and Mark Lawler (Queen’s Belfast University, CDDF).

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Large language models (LLM’s) can introduce efficiency for many repetitive manual tasks. Automating these tasks can lead to more accurate, consistent products more quickly.
  •  One example is the information provided to the patient. The first draft of the informed consent document can be generated by LLM within 2-4 minutes with better readability, and shorter form.
  • Another example is using LLM to identify which studies a patient might be eligible for quickly and thoroughly.
  • National Cancer Institute (NCI) is developing these LLM tools, always with a human in the loop, for free dissemination.

The webinar recording and speaker presentations will be available via the CDDF website soon.
